Hear What Judges Say
“The entries of the Student Group have demonstrated various design possibilities such as functionality, user-oriented designs, poetic concepts and environmental considerations. Designed for use in hospitals, the Champion’s winning piece combines illumination concepts with furniture and creates an interaction with users. The judging panel finds this empathic approach very inspiring and agrees that this kind of design should be encouraged. The First Runner-up has adopted the upcycling design approach by 'redefining' waste materials into new products with better functions or for higher market value. The design of the Second Runner-up has reflected the relationship between environmental protection and our daily live. Generally speaking, the Student Group’s winning entries can demonstrate to international buyers, designers and producers that Hong Kong offers a great variety of lighting designs.”
Brian Lee, Vice President, Industrial Designers Society of Hong Kong, Hong Kong

“I have been one of the judges for this competition for the past few years. I am happy to see that the quality of local designs continues to improve with more original ideas. Strong creativity can be seen especially in the winning design from the Open Group’s Champion which produces different lighting effects under different environment. This is an innovative design concept that I’ve never seen before. Such a creative design definitely has great potential in the international market. Regarding the design trends, I think that LEDs allow for more versatile designs due to their compact size as compared with traditional lamps, so there will be more diversified LED designs in the market.”
Lee Wing Tak, CEO, Neonlite Electronic & Lighting (HK) Limited, Hong Kong

Hear What Exhibitors Say
“Matrix Holdings Limited has been a toys manufacturer for many years, and we diversified our business into the LED lighting business in 2007. Since then, our company has been a regular at the Lighting Fair. With sales offices in every continent, we sell our products to many countries and regions all over the world. The fair is an ideal platform for us to launch new products, to strengthen our relationships with existing customers and to look for new buyers. We have met with a lot of buyers from the Chinese mainland, Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the US. We have already received some orders from Southeast Asian buyers on the first morning of the fair. The business atmosphere here is much better than last year.”
Nigel So, General Manager, Matrix Lighting Limited (a subsidiary of Matrix Holdings Limited), Hong Kong

“Our company is a designer and manufacturer of LED lighting products in Taiwan, focusing on decorative lights. We have been exhibiting here for several years since the fair offers the best opportunity for us to bring our products to international markets. Our decorative lamp collections such Kapu, Ripple and Mini Ki have drawn a lot of interest from designers, retailers and wholesalers especially those from Europe, Japan, North America and the Middle East. We like this fair very much because here we can meet a variety of customers from around the world and open up new markets.”
Agnieszka Emma Tracz, Sales and Marketing Specialist, Next Generation Lighting Source Co., Ltd., Taiwan

Hear What Buyers Say
“Our company is a lighting specialist supplying lighting products to iconic and well-known commercial projects in the Middle East. Therefore, all the lighting products that we supply for these projects have to be of very high quality. We buy quality lighting products mainly from Australia, Europe and the US. I have come to this fair for the first time to look for new suppliers. Through the HKTDC’s business matching services, I have met with three potential suppliers at this fair and will get samples from them for quality check. I have also talked to some other exhibitors here. It’s an interesting and organised show. I’ll see more exhibitors in the next few days.”
Steve Fildes, General Manager - Lighting, Gargash Lighting Systems L.L.C (GLS), United Arab Emirates

“We are a wholesaler of indoor and outdoor lighting products, with Poland, the Middle East and the US being our major markets. Our wholesale business is expanding at 600 per cent annually, so we need more suppliers. I am attending this fair for the first time to look for new suppliers of lighting products as well as OEM manufacturers who can turn our lighting designs into finished products. Though it’s just the first day of the fair, I am really impressed by the number of exhibitors as well as the variety and quality of their products. So far, I have identified two potential suppliers. I’ll place orders for high bay lamps, down lights and LED tubes.”
Marcin Mierzejewski, Managing Director, Imma Lighting Sp. z o.o., Poland
